    Class 3 Visit Springwell Farm

Mr Walker gave Class 3 a brilliant morning of activities at the farm today. The visit started with a tour of the site and an introduction to the animals. Everyone stroked Casper the rabbit and most pupils groomed one of the Shetland ponies. After the tour the pupils planted Remembrance Day trees around the fence. Finally they all played together in the forest area where they hid in the dens and played hide and seek.

On Monday three students from Kirk Balk Alternative Academy put on a mental health awareness roadshow for pupils at Springwell Special Academy. Class 3 went along and had a great time making all sorts of things. Their favourite was making stress toys with balloons and flour. By the end of the session all pupils were more aware of some of the mental health issues faced by people every day. THANK YOU KIRK BALK.

    Real Life Heroes

We have been doing lots of work on superheroes this term and have produced comic strips and poems about fictitious heroes. Today, however we met a real life hero; Colin a fire officer. He talked to us about his job and showed us all the protective clothing and kit that fire fighters have to keep themselves and the public safe. Mr Clayton modelled the fireproof gear – he said it was very heavy.
